Michael Hickman |
Michael Hickman was born in Worcestershire in 1943. He gained a First Class Honours BSc in Biology (Botany) from the University of Western Ontario, Canada in 1966, and a Ph.D. in Phycology/Freshwater Ecology from the University of Bristol, England, in 1970. He has been Professor of Botany (now Biological Sciences) at the University of Alberta, Canada, since 1981, having been initially an Assistant and then Associate Professor in the same department since 1970.
He has published numerous papers on his research activities into the ecology of benthic and planktonic algae in lakes and rivers of Alberta, and has been retained as a consultant by various organizations, both private and governmental. His current research interests lie in the field of Palaeoecology, specifically palaeolimnology, and how climatic changes affect lakes and their biota. He lives in Edmonton with his wife and two sons.
