Paul Reps, the compiler of this book, is an American deeply interested in bridging the understanding of East and West. He is the author of Zen Telegrams, Square Sun Square moon, Unwrinkling Plays and 10 Ways to Meditate, books printed in Japan and distributed in the U.S.A.
Nyogen Senzaki was a Buddhist scholar of international renown. Born in Japan of Chinese-Japanese parents, he was left in a field and found by a Buddhist monk, who was his first teacher. Later he became a 'homeless monk' who wandered over Japan and finally settled in California, U.S.A.
Nyogen Senzaki and Paul Reps collaborated in the first three sections of this book, the fourth being Mr Reps's production.
