Valerie Illingworth has a degree in physics from Bristol University and a master's degree in radiation physics from London University. She worked in reference book publishing before becoming freelance in 1976. She is the editor of several books including Macmillan Dictionary of Astronomy and Oxford's Dictionary of Computing.
