He is known to many for his 'Thought for the Day' broadcasts on the BBC Radio 4's Today programme.

Understanding Organisations was his first book, originally published in 1976 and now in its fourth edition. Since then he has published a further ten books, including Gods of Management, The Age of Unreason, The Empty Raincoat and The Hungry Spirit. A collection of his 'Thoughts for the Day' is published under the title Waiting for the Mountain to Move. His work has focused on the changing shape of work and organizations and what this might mean for our futures.
