Gerald M. Edelman MD Ph.D. is Director of the Neurosciences Institute and President of the Neurosciences Research Foundation. He received the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 1972. He is the author of Neural Darwinism (1987), Topobiology (1988), The Remembered Present (1989) and Bright Air, Brilliant Fire (1992), all published by Basic Books.
