After beginning her professional life as a teacher, Carmen McGuinness took a BA in research psychology at the University of South Florida. It was there that she met Diane McGuinness Ph.D. and with her founded the project that was to evolve into the Phono-Graphix teaching method. She has been the program and training director for the Read America organization since its establishment in 1993.
She is the author of numerous magazine articles for educational and parent publications, the co-author of three scientific research papers and chief author of Phono-Graphix - A New Method for Remediating Reading Problems, which was published in November 1996 edition of the Orton Annals of Dyslexia. She is currently working on Language Wise - Building your Child's Verbal Intelligence with her husband Geoffrey McGuinness.
