Jimmy Doherty |
Jimmy Doherty was born in the beautiful Essex countryside, and has been passionate about nature and farming for as long as he can remember. After leaving school, he became an entomologist at Molehall Wildlife Park, the Natural History Museum and Coventry University but in 2003, he decided to leave the study of insects behind him to set up a rare breed pig farm in Suffolk. His trials and tribulations were filmed by the BBC and he wrote his first book On the Farm to accompany the series. He still lives and works on the farm with his girlfriend, 300 pigs, 3 cows, 15 sheep, 2 dogs and 100 chickens. His latest book is A Taste of the Country, a selection of rustic recipes (Penguin, 2006).
