Dear Secrets Club reader,
I hope you enjoy reading Alice in the Spotlight, the first book of my brand new series, The Secrets Club because I loved writing it.
It’s all about four girls, Alice, Tash, Lissa and Dani, who meet for the first time when they go to Riverside Academy for Girls. They’re all very different but before long they’ve become firm friends.
Friends are so important, aren’t they?
Question: Is there anything worse than starting a new school where you don’t know anyone?
Answer: No! And believe me I know because I’ve been there!
I was worried sick when I started secondary school because I didn’t know a soul. I’d only just moved to the area you see. That first assembly I could see that everyone else was sitting with friends from primary school while I sat on my own, a little Billy No-mates.
And to make matters worse, I stood out like a sore thumb because I didn’t have the correct school uniform. I was missing the regulation green cardigan because my mum hadn’t finished knitting it! (Yes, ok, it was that long ago when mums still hand-knitted cardigans. And no, I still haven’t forgiven her.)
But then amid a sea of bottle-green (I still hate bottle-green!) I spotted another girl in a white shirt and I summed up the courage to go and speak to her. She had chosen not to wear her cardigan because it was too warm, how brave was she? But she was nice and introduced me to two of her friends from primary school. We ended up all sitting together at the back of the class throughout the whole of our secondary school life and decades later we’re still best mates. And she’s still braver than me.
It just goes to show that friendships can start in the most unlikely ways. Maybe it’s time I did forgive my poor mum after all.
Alice is worried about starting at Riverside Academy for lots of reasons. But the main one is to do with her sister Nikki. If you’ve read the book, you’ll know why. If you haven’t, read it to find out!
I love hearing from my readers. Tell me some of the things you’re worried about in starting secondary school. And then tell about the new friends you made when you got there.
Now I’d better get back to writing the second book of the series, “The Truth about Tash.” Like Alice, Tash has a secret. We all do, don’t we? That’s what friends are for, to share them with.
I’m loving writing it. I hope you love reading it too.
Chris
