Synopsis
Set in the rich farmland of the Salinas Valley, California, this powerful, often brutal novel, follows the interwined destinies of two families - the Trasks and the Hamiltons - whose generations hopelessly re-enact the fall of Adam and Eve and the poisonous rivalry of Cain and Abel. Here Steinbeck created some of his most memorable characters and explored his most enduring themes: the mystery of indentity; the inexplicability of love, and the murderous consequences of love's absence.Reviews

'East of Eden is an example of how reality can be more interesting than fiction. I only discovered half way that this book is partly autobiographical and it just made perfect sense. The characters are so vivid, they breath vital energy throughout the book, it''s a story of people who are not afraid of living nor dying. I have never read better descriptions, you get to love and hate this people, and you get to learn from them. They are smart and wise, they are lost and sad, they love and hate each other, but they are never bored nor boring. This book is truly the masterpiece many people regard as.'
