'An excellent read, whether for use in the classroom, to help with homework, to dip in and out of AND to sit and read from cover to cover! It''s well organised, clearly written and helpfully illustrated. My 7-year-old immediately flipped to the index to find out which page contained information about Charles II (guess whose current topic is ''The Great Fire of London''?) and was delighted to be rewarded with a double-page spread full of details about Charles''s reign. The illustrations and extra facts in the margins are a bonus too and include fascinating snippets of information e.g. the origin of Royal Oak as a pub name. As parent I am thrilled that this book was immediately accessible and appealing to my 7-year-old. As a KS2 teacher I am a fan of its overall presentation of facts and particularly of the language used - an excellent example of how to write for children without ''dumbing down'' the vocabulary used.'
