'This is described as a first reference for readers and writers. It is exactly that. The dictionary is a compact sized soft backed book that manages to pack in over 1000 definitions. It contains colourful and sometimes humourous illustrations of some of the words on each page. It has simple to read font, using different colours and bold text together with good spacing to make it easy to use for young readers. The sides of the pages list the alphabet and highlight the letter referencing the section of the dictionary which helps the younger reader find the words. Definitions are simple and concise - perfect for the intended age group e.g a microwave is "an oven for cooking food quickly". Also handy and fun to use are the reference sections at the back for month, days of the week, compass points, seasons, animals, short useful words. I have used with my 4 1/2 year old son who is starting to write and reading quite a few words. He loves it and so do I think it will be a great reference when he starts school and when his writing and reading develops further. '
