Attracting and hiring great people is a major concern for any creative business. We've been working at this, thinking carefully about what we offer graduates looking for their first step into the publishing industry and developing a better understanding of what really makes a difference for our business and the people who work here.

2005 has seen three really exciting developments for Penguin's graduate recruitment. Firstly, we recruited five people into our Graduate Development Programme; having only recruited two graduates for each of the previous years. Secondly - and this was a pleasant surprise - Penguin was nominated as the highest new entry into The Times Top 100 Graduate Employers.

Most importantly, we have broadened our horizons and looked for ways to ensure that every graduate joining Penguin receives the opportunities, support and training that was historically the preserve of the Graduate Programme. Given that we recruit about 50 graduates a year into entry level positions, we'd be missing a trick if we continued to limit our investment of time, training and support to only a handful of grads on a programme.

Taking the above developments into consideration, we have made the decision not to run a Graduate Programme for 2006. Instead, we are encouraging all graduates to apply for entry level positions as advertised on this website. Successful applicants will benefit from Penguin's experience and commitment to developing its people.
