PENGUIN FUN

Penguin Books holds the highest new entry in The Times Top 100 Graduate Employers 2005. At no 70, Penguin is the only publishing house to appear in the rankings. This result together with Penguin's success in 2004 - when it won both the NSPCC Family Friendly Award and the Media Employer of the Year Award - confirms Penguin's commitment to providing the best possible opportunities and working environment for all of its employees.

Penguin Books is based at 80 Strand in Central London. We offer competitive salaries and extensive benefits and actively encourage career development. Diversity is a high priority and both Penguin and its parent company Pearson have long been committed to equal opportunities. For more information about Penguin's Diversity policy click here.

Recruitment

All current vacancies are advertised here.

A recruitment advert for the national or specialist press may also be created - common sources of recruitment advertising are The Guardian (Mondays & Saturdays) or The Bookseller.

Applicant's CVs are carefully sifted for suitability and successful candidates are invited to interview with the line manager and a HR representative. Those candidates invited back for second interview may meet the head of department.

The candidate who most accurately meets the criteria for the position will receive a verbal job offer, followed by a written contract of employment.

All job offers are made on the basis of a successful pre-employment medical with the company's medical advisor. References are also sought along with confirmation of the right to work in the UK. The new employee will receive a thorough induction upon joining the Company.

Direct Temporary Employees

Penguin UK employs a pool of direct temporary employees. In practice, this means that staff are employed directly by Penguin and paid through the payroll, but work as and when required on long or short term contracts of employment. Direct temporary employees (with eligible service) are entitled to holiday and sickness pay.

Working in editorial, marketing, publicity or sales departments (to name a few) at our Strand office, our pool of direct temporary employees provide administrative and secretarial cover during holidays, sickness, maternity leave. This is often an excellent way to gain publishing experience and make those all-important contacts.

If you would like to be considered as a Direct Temporary employee, please send your CV to one of the following:
