A message from Penguin ...
Ever since the birth of Penguin in 1935, we've been proud to call ourselves the people's publisher. The original vision of Penguin founder Allen Lane stemmed from the simple determination that good books should be available to everybody, not just the privileged few. The Lesley Pearse Women of Courage Award strikes me as being wholly in keeping with the Penguin philosophy. Lesley is an extraordinary woman as well as an extraordinary writer, who is able to use her incredible life to create unforgettable fiction. She is a born storyteller who has been through a lot to find her true calling. We're hugely proud to call her a Penguin author.
