About Naomi

Naomi Alderman PhotoNaomi Alderman was born in London in 1974 and grew up in the Orthodox Jewish community in Hendon. She now lives there again after a couple of years in New York.

She read philosophy, politics and economics at Lincoln College, Oxford University, and is a graduate of the University of East Anglia Creative Writing MA course. She spent a month as a resident at the University of Arizona's poetry centre, which she credits as giving her the necessary breathing space to bring Disobedience alive. Disobedience won the Orange Award for New Writers 2006. Naomi will be a judge for the Orange Award for New Writers 2007.

Since 2004, Naomi has acted as the lead writer for Perplex City, an alternate reality game whose workings she explains here. She also writes a blog on the life of a new author.
