I love smoothies, because you can make them with anything you like. Here's a basic smoothie recipe which you can flavour with 2-3 handfuls of any chosen fruit. Or flavour it using one of the three fantastic combinations given below.

Serves 2

1 banana
2-3 large handfuls of your chosen fruit
approx 1 pint glass of ice
285ml/½ pint single cream

Place the banana and your chosen fruit into a liquidizer and whizz for 30 seconds. Add the ice and cream. Place the lid back on tightly and pulse the liquidizer a couple of times on and off to break up the larger pieces of ice, before whizzing up to a semi-slushy milkshake consistency.

If you haven't got a liquidizer, you can do as I have been known to do - place the ice into a clean tea-towel and bash the hell out of it with a rolling-pin before stirring in the mushed fruit and the cream. It's good, but not quite as good. The 3 smoothies below can be made by following this basic recipe, using the listed ingredients as your chosen fruit.

2 handfuls of blackberries
1 handful of peeled and chopped fresh pineapple

Method as before

1 more banana
2 tablespoons honey
2 heaped tablespoons peanut butter (if you're very sad)

Method as before

1 handful of raspberries
2 handfuls of strawberries
