November 2007. Hello my dear readers

I'm just taking a break from working on my new book Gypsy, to say hello. As it's set during the Klondike Gold Rush in Alaska and the Yukon area of Canada, I've spent the past six months imagining I'm in temperatures of 40 degrees below freezing. It's a bit of a surprise when I venture out to find it's still quite warm and that I don't need snowshoes or a dog sled to get about. There are still lots of flowers in my garden, and the lawn doesn't seem to know it's time for it to give up growing. No doubt that will change very soon, and we'll all be digging out our boots, scarves and gloves and getting into the inevitable Christmas shopping.

I'm going on a cruise around South America for Christmas and New Year, I can't wait. It will be bliss having no Christmas decorations to put up, or food to buy and cook. I have dropped hints that I'll be buying the family prezzies in South America, and they'll get them on my return. They didn't look too thrilled. I think they imagine I'll be buying them weird hats or multi-coloured hand knitted slippers two inches thick.

I contemplated trying to learn to do the tango so that when we get to Buenos Aires I could surprise everyone with my grace and elegance. Sadly I have two left feet and about as much grace as a walrus, so I'll just sit and applaud those who can do it.

Speaking of applause for those who deserve it, let me remind you that the closing date for The Women of Courage Award for 2007 is 30th November. You may have a mother, sister, aunt, friend, neighbour or wife who you think is amazing, one of those unsung heroines who has coped with heartbreak, family problems, sickness, or spent her whole life looking out for other people. I know there are real heroines out there who would put my fictional ones to shame, and I really want to hear about them. You can nominate at WomenofCourageAward.co.uk

Remember too, that even if we can only have one winner, to find oneself nominated for this award, is in itself an acknowledgment that you are admired and respected. For most selfless women that is the most wonderful thing in the world. So let me know about your special lady. I'm waiting to hear from you on the website.

P.S. The paperback of Faith will be in the shops in mid January. Hope you enjoy it. And a very Merry Christmas too!

Bless you all, Love Lesley
