About A Boy

Tribeca Productions, the New York based production-company headed by Robert de Niro and and Jane Rosenthal, optioned the rights to Hornby's novel in 1998, just prior to publication.

'Nick Hornby has such an extraordinary voice' said producer Jane Rosenthal. 'It was a natural book to turn into a movie. There aren't many writers who write with that vision in a way that can so easily be adapted for the screen'.

Tribeca teamed up with Working Title Films and kept the book's London location, and ambience.

Starring Hugh Grant, Rachel Weisz and Toni Collette, the film was nominated for an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Directors Paul Weitz and Chris Weitz previously directed teen blockbuster hit American Pie.
