BREAKING NEWS: There's NO breaking news! This used to be the 'breaking news' section of the website, but we have all reluctantly come to the conclusion that there is no breaking news - not now, and not ever. Things do happen in a writer's life every now and again, I suppose. Books get published, scripts get turned into movies, and so on. But nothing happens with any great sense of urgency. The only thing that happens on a daily/weekly/monthly basis, if we're lucky, is that people buy our books. I have therefore asked Penguin to link this site to every bookshop cash register in Britain, and if someone buys, say, a copy of SLAM from the WH Smith in Stansted Airport, you'll be the first to know about it: there'll be a rolling news-style tickertape on the bottom of your screen, and it will become as addictive as email, or solitaire. Until we have the technology for that, however, we are going to stop pretending that it's all insanely busy here. And of course in the unlikely event that anything does happen, then I'll be writing about it in my blog... |
