Explanation of work
When I read Vince and Joy I decided that I wanted to focus on the early chapter of the story when the two characters meet and fall in love at Hunstanton caravan park, as that meeting inadvertently affects the rest of their lives and is the crucial part of the story. Vince and Joy are both vulnerable characters who have perhaps not had the same 'normal' life experiences as their peers, and I thought drawing on the theme of them watching each other from their windows would convey the sense of longing as well as wanting to 'belong', that I feel from reading the text. I wanted the image to be simple and striking, drawing on specific things mentioned in the story such as the 'lurid orange curtains', and the shape of Joy's hair. The text I chose as I thought the simple boldness of it sits well with the image without detracting from it at all.
