Explanation of work

The concept behind my design is based on poison ivy. I chose this imagery as it represents things like vengeful and devious thoughts... Due to the entwining nature of the ivy, it also reflects the twisted entanglement of the relationships between the characters. One of the main themes in the book is beauty – and furthermore ‘beauty is terror’ – which is another element I wanted to incorporate into my design. I achieved this by creating an ornate, decorative pattern and introducing small ‘hidden’ imagery, which the viewer may not see at first glance, giving the overall design a more sinister feel. The idea here is that not everything is as it seems and that sometimes it takes a closer look to discover what something – or someone – is really about.
