Explanation of work

While the visual comparison between the road and Kerouac’s infamous roll of Teletype paper is obvious, I wanted to handle it more inventively. It interacts with – and partially obscures – the title to emphasize the domineering, unpredictable nature of the road both literally and figuratively. I’ve attempted to pare down the breathless frustration of Kerouac’s writing to a few simple visual elements and couple them with appropriate type inspired by 1950s jazz vinyl covers.
