Explanation of work
I began the design by drawing something odd, then interpreting it. I enjoy images happening by chance and I enjoy making use of chance.
In my design I incorporated the review from Hanif Kureishi, ‘It changed the way I saw the world, making me yearn for fresh experience.’ The glasses are upside down because he is seeing things differently and experiencing a change, causing his nose to also turn upside down. I feel that this quote also relates to Kerouac’s experiences on the road, and the change that occurred within him. By doing this I think I have avoided any clichés in the design. The cover is bold, curious and eye-catching.
