Explanation of work
I decided early on that I wanted to put Henry on the front cover. I was captured by the darkness and coldness of the character and wanted a striking image of him for the cover. Using lino printing I was able to give the character more depth, especially to illustrate his blank and expressionless eyes. By cropping the image and placing it behind red panels the jacket reiterates the idea of a secret – of knowing, watching and waiting. It also becomes the separating panel between their world of classics and the world of their fellow students. The door that only opens long enough for you to peek inside. I wanted a dark and dangerous colour for the cover and think the red fulfils that purpose. The red also works well against the black and white lino image.
