Explanation of work
My design is a depiction of the pivotal moment in the novel, the bacchanal – the drunken and ecstatic dance that takes place in the forest surrounding Hampden College at night. It is this event that leads to a series of horrific incidents between the main characters. With shadow puppetry I was able to reference the Greek imagery associated with this ritual, whilst encapsulating the unsettling and inauspicious atmosphere of the novel as a whole.
