Explanation of work

My book jacket was inspired by a section of the book where Sal encounters a wild horse in Mexico. It’s quite a surreal moment where they are like kindred spirits crossing paths. I used the wild horse as a metaphor for the people of the beat generation because a wild horse is constantly searching, restless, untamed and free. Like the characters in the book, the horse is never settled, never home. In the etching, the horse is solitary in the night. The feeling of movement is important as the characters are always on their way to somewhere else. I think this sense of a wild spirit captures the essence of the book.
