Explanation of work
My idea is based heavily on the Greek myth of the maenads and their Dionysian frenzies with which Henry becomes obsessed in the book. The maenads are described as ‘more like deer than human’ and are depicted wearing the skin of fawns. This became the foundation for my idea. I decided to portray the group with stag heads to reflect their fascination with losing self-control and releasing their repressed animal selves, which plagues the story. The resulting ominous and disturbing illustration reflects the reader’s anticipation of Bunny’s impending doom.
