T-Rex Trying: The Unfortunate Trials of the Tyrant Lizard King

Hugh Murphy: T-Rex Trying: The Unfortunate Trails of the Tyrant Lizard King - book image

He might be top predator in the Jurassic kingdom, but in modern life, T-Rex's comically short arms doom him to the most charming failure.

T-Rex has teeth the size of bananas and eats Triceratops for breakfast, but when it's time to brush his teeth ...

T-Rex is 12 metres long and 4 metres tall, but somehow he just can't change that light bulb ...

T-Rex Trying began as an inside joke that artist Hugh Murphy shared with his friends and family, then he uploaded them to a Tumblr blog (http://trextrying.tumblr.com/) which went onto to achieve a staggering 2.5 million hits in two weeks. Since then, the Tumblr has been shared on Facebook over 230,000 times – it’s a new viral treasure!

Now, containing dozens of never before seen illustrations, T-Rex Trying: The Unfortunate Trials of the Tyrant Lizard King is the cute, quirky and laugh-out-loud funny collection of cartoons – a perfect stocking filler to share with family and friends this Christmas.

Here at Penguin Towers, Everybody's Hacked Off...

Brian Cathcart: Everybody's Hacked Off (Penguin Specials) - book image

This week we can't stop talking about Everybody's Hacked Off by journalist and press reform campaigner Brian Cathcart.

With the party conferences under way and the relationship between politics and the media continually under close scrutiny, there's no better time to have a read of his Penguin Special on the Leveson inquiry. It's a complete overview of the trial and shows just how the British media abused their position of power – from the phone hacking of Milly Dowler and Sienna Miller, to the corruption at the heart of the British press. Hugh Grant's introduction gives the insiders view of the trial, and explains exactly how it feels when your life is invaded by the media.

If you want to get up to speed and know exactly what went on behind closed doors at the major newspapers, it's a great summary - and as it's a digital short, it's the perfect book to sit down with during your coffee break or at lunch.

Check out some of the pictures from the launch party which include the lovely Hugh Grant!

Anne's diary movingly reveals how the eight people living under these extraordinary conditions coped with the daily threat of discovery and death, being cut off from the outside world, petty misunderstandings and the unbearable strain of living like prisoners. The Anne Frank App enables a deeper understanding of Anne's thoughts and experience, bringing readers closer emotionally to the diary.

Richard and Judy's autumn bookclub choices

Elizabeth Noble: Between A Mother And Her Child - book image

Maria Duenas: The Seamstress - book image

Richard and Judy's autumn bookclub choices have been announced and we are delighted that two Penguins are on the list. Elizabeth Noble's 'Between A Mother And Her Child' is all about mothers and their love for their children, which they call a 'weepy, but ultimately enriching and optimistic'. Maria Duenas's The Seamstress is the biggest sensation to come from Spain since Carlos Ruiz Zafón's The Shadow of the Wind. Richard and Judy call it a 'gripping, utterly absorbing read'. Discover them both for yourself with the extracts below:

» The Seamstress
» Between a Mother and Her Child

And, if that's not enough for you, feast your eyes on the video trailer for Between a Mother and her child:

Jacqueline Wilson Pops in to the Penguin Podcast!

Four Children and It - book image

Jacqueline Wilson - imageYesterday we recorded a fantastic interview with Jacqueline Wilson for the Penguin Podcast. We chatted about her modern retake of E. Nesbit's Five Children and It. We REALLY recommend Jacqueline's Four Children and It as it manages to keep with the spirit, and captures the voice of the Psammead so perfectly, of E. Nesbitt's classic but also translates the story so well into her own world of a jigsaw family.

The interview will be used in our highly anticipated 'Cross Over' podcast, featuring titles for Young Adults such as
The Intern, Black Heart Blue and Four Children and It.

Four Children and It will be available to buy on the 16th August.
