Winning titles from the 2019 Books Are My Bag Readers Awards

Last night, Books Are My Bag announced three wins for Penguin Random House at their annual Readers Awards. With more than 40,000 votes cast in total, these are the only awards curated by bookshops and voted for by book lovers.

The Non-Fiction award went to Penguin General author Michelle Obama, for her bestselling memoir Becoming, a unique work of deep reflection and storytelling.

In a very impressive shortlist line-up, Penguin Press author Greta Thunberg was awarded the Breakthrough Author Award with her book No One is Too Small To Make A Difference

The open shortlist voted for by readers saw Invisible Women by VINTAGE author Caroline Criado Perez win the Readers' Choice Award – an award for the book which 'most captivated, entertained or inspired you over the last 12 months.'

This year's awards, now in their fourth year, included seven shortlists chosen by booksellers across the UK and Ireland and the Readers' Choice Award – nominated and voted for entirely by booklovers.

Emma Bradshaw, head of campaigns at the Booksellers Association told The Bookseller: 'Congratulations to all of the Books Are My Bag Readers Awards 2019 winners! This year’s winners explore some of the most pressing and pertinent topics of our time, demonstrating the many ways in which books are vehicles for ideas, and sources of entertainment and joy, across cultures and generations. Bookshops play a pivotal role in fostering our love for books and helping books and readers to discover each other, and we hope even more readers will have the opportunity to experience these fantastic winners.'
