VINTAGE Summer: Go Big

Pick the perfect read this summer with a little help from Vintage. If you like books with big themes or enough pages to cause an excess baggage charge this selection is for you.

If you’re the kind of reader who likes what we referred to as a ‘chunkster’ in our July Podcast, then we have 10 books to satisfy the largest of appetites. First up we have five fiction titles to feast on that take you all the way from the Mediterranean of the nineteenth century to the outer reaches of the universe; plus they’re all in paperback so they won’t take up too much space in your suitcase.

Non-fiction that contains big themes and ideas can provide the perfect read as you relax on your holiday. The timing couldn’t be better to find out how humankind got here with Sapiens before its sequel, Homo Deus, arrives in the autumn to tell us where we’re heading. But big themes don’t have to mean big books. Paul Kalanithi’s memoir may be relatively slim but we guarantee that its examination of life in the face of death makes it the most affecting writing you’ll encounter this year.
