The Penguin Q&A

Poppy Chancellor

Creator of Cut It Out! talks about her inspiration and which piece of artwork she would take to a desert island

Poppy Chancellor

What was your childhood ambition?

As a kid I always wanted to be a fireman. I’d seen their ‘Pompier’ bomber jackets on holiday in France and I was desperate to be part of their gang.

What inspires you?

London’s museums never fail to light up my imagination. I love getting lost in the library at the Victoria and Albert museum.

Which fictional character would you like to go out drinking with and why?

I’d love to go out drinking with my childhood idol, Flat Stanley. He’d have some great party tricks.

What would be your desert island artwork?

I’d choose a giant Jeff Koons balloon sculpture, that would be hard to miss from the rescue plane.

Who would you invite to your fantasy dinner party and what would you serve?

I’d serve Oysters to Eric Cantona, Donuts to Mae West and Champagne to Elisabeth the 1st.

What are you like on social media?

I’m addicted to Instagram. I’m convinced eyes are turning square.

Not many people know this, but I’m very good at…

Karaoke. It’s a self expression for me.
