Koethi Zan was born and raised in rural Alabama. She attended Yale Law School and currently lives in an old farmhouse in upstate New York. Her first novel The Never List was a bestseller and a Richard and Judy Book Club pick.
Yevgeny Zamyatin was born in 1884. He was arrested as a student in 1905 by Tsarist police for being a Bolshevik. He was then sent to England to work on Russian ice breakers in Newcastle. He has been described as a 'dapper, tweedy naval engineer'. He was also a fan of H.G. Wells . After the revolution in 1917 he returned to Russia and worked for Gorky. He was arrested again by the Soviet authorities in 1919 and 1922 and forbidden to publish his work. In 1931 Stalin surprisingly granted him permission to move to Paris. He died there in March, 1937.
Dick Davis is the foremost English-speaking scholar of medieval Persian poetry now working in the West. He read English at Cambridge, lived in Iran for eight years (where he met and married his Iranian wife Afkham Darbandi), then completed a PhD in Medieval Persian Literature at the University of Manchester. He has resided for extended periods in both Greece and Italy (his translations include works from Italian), and has taught at both the University of California and at Ohio State University, where he was for nine years Professor of Persian and Chair of the Department of Near Eastern Languages, retiring from that position in 2012. In all, he has published more than twenty books, including the award-winning poetry collections Seeing the World and Belonging. His translations include Ferdowsi's Shahnameh: the Persian Book of Kings and Farid ud-Din Attar's The Conference of the Birds. The Times Literary Supplement has called him 'our finest translator of Persian poetry'.
Koren Zailckas grew up in the suburbs of Boston and whilst at Syracuse University was the subject of a Time magazine article about women and binge-drinking. She now lives in New York City.
Mohsin grew up in a devout Muslim community in East London. He was the first person from his school to go to Oxford University where he studied law. Today Mohsin is a top criminal barrister. He has since worked in The Hague and the UK’s Supreme Court, and currently he is working on the high profile enquiry into undercover policing. He is an advocate for LGBT rights and BAME representation, and a governor of his former secondary school.
Timothy Zahn is the author of more than forty novels, nearly ninety short stories and novellas, and four short-fiction collections. In 1984, he won the Hugo Award for Best Novella. Zahn is best known for his Star Wars novels (Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, The Last Command, Specter of the Past, Vision for the Future, Survivor's Quest, Outbound Flight, Allegiance, Choices of One, and Scoundrels), with more than four million copies of his books in print. Other books inlcude the Cobra series, the Quadrail series, and the young adult Dragonback series. Zahn has a B.S. in physics from Michigan State University and an M.S. from the University of Illinois. He lives with his family on the Oregon coast.
Muriel Zagha is a French journalist who now lives in London with her English husband and son. She has written arts and design features for publications including the Sunday Telegraph, the Sunday Telegraph Magazine, the World of Interiors, the Times Literary Supplement and the Guardian.
Fran Warde (Author) Fran Warde's career has been fuelled by a passion for food. Trained as a chef, she worked at the Café Royal, on an Australian prawn trawler, ran her own cookery school and then moved into food styling and food writing. She was the food editor at Red Magazine and is the author of Ginger Pig Meat Book, Ginger Pig Farmhouse Cookbook, Food for Friends, Eat, Drink, Live and Thirty Minute Italian and is also co-author of The Little Book of Chocolat, The French Market and The French Kitchen with Joanne Harris. Fran lives in West London with her husband and two children and has been helping as a volunteer at Maggie's, Charing Cross where she met Catherine, and was inspired to feel that this book is really necessary to many people and families. Catherine Zabilowicz (Author) Catherine Zabilowicz was inspired to study Nutritional Therapy after caring for her son with leukemia. After pouring over the research on cancer and nutrition during his three years of treatment she decided she should take that knowledge further by embarking on a Nutritional Therapy degree and a Masters in Nutritional Medicine. Since 2008 she has worked as the Nutrition Advisor at Maggie's Cancer Caring Centre at Charing Cross Hospital. She has also worked with the 'Food Doctor' as their Nutrition and Cancer Therapist, with a District Council running community and schools nutrition programmes, as the Nutrition Advisor for a food company and runs courses on nutrition and cancer to health professionals. She lives in Surrey, has four boys, and is passionate about cooking and eating tasting food made from great natural produce.
