Sir Steve Redgrave is a rowing star who has won five Olympic gold medals: for the Coxed Fours in Los Angeles (1984); the Coxless Pairs in Seoul (1988), Barcelona (1992) and Atlanta (1996); and the Coxless Fours in Sydney (2000). He has also won nine World Championship Golds. His other rowing honours include winning the Henley Royal Regatta Diamond Sculls several times and the Silver Goblets a record seven times. He was awarded an MBE in the 1987 New Year's Honours List and was made a CBE ten years later. Following his success in Sydney, he was awarded a Knighthood in the 2001 New Years Honours List. Since retiring from rowing, he has completed the London Marathon, raising £1,800,000 for charity; taken part in Top Gear Ground Force for Sport Relief; rowed on the Gloriana as part of the royal pageant for Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee celebrations and was a torch-bearer at the London 2012 Olympics.
