Tom Weldon

CEO, Penguin Random House UK

I am a gambler and publishing is all about taking risks.  I am fascinated by the business of publishing – submitting ideas and creativity to the discipline of commercial scrutiny.  And I enjoy doing work with a real purpose – books really do help to change people’s lives.  I have also been extremely fortunate to have got to know an extraordinary range of authors who have taken me into many different worlds: a good publisher can and should be an impresario across the whole of culture.

A book that's left a deep impression on meA Boy’s Own Story by Edmund White

My literary hero: William Stoner

A book I'd recommend to everyoneThe Story of Art by EH Gombrich
