Join Paul Mason, writer, film-maker and one of the left's leading thinkers as he discusses his new book Clear Bright Future: A Radical Defence of the Human Being with BBC 6 Music’s Stuart Maconie.

We face a triple threat: the rise of authoritarian politicians and the destruction of verifiable truth; the possibility of intelligent machines whose existence will wipe out human claim to agency, rights and consciousness; and a spreading fatalism and irrationality, which has made millions of people susceptible to the mythologies of the new right.

Paul Mason argues each of these dangers is rooted in the purposeful creation of the “neoliberal self”. He decodes the events that have led to this, from the crashes of markets thought ‘too big to fail’, to Europe’s austerity, Trump’s rise to power, rising fuel prices, and why politics, business and media are failing to resist Trump and the alt-right. He argues for a framework that allows us to take back conscious control, to claim spaces where human values, rather than market values, prevail. The radical defence of the human being starts with each of us.

Don’t miss this chance to join Paul Mason as he calls for a Clear Bright Future; for resistance against the politicians and corporations who are trying to exert new forms of technological control.
