Penguin Live, in collaboration with Southbank Centre, presents James Ellroy in conversation.

The Demon Dog of American Literature himself comes to London for the first time in five years to discuss his new novel.

This Storm is the second novel in Ellroy's Second ‘L.A. Quartet’ (following on from Perfidia in 2014 and featuring characters from the ‘L.A. Quartet’ and the ‘Underworld USA Trilogy’). A pulse-pounding historical crime novel set in a Los Angeles and Mexico gripped by war fever and racial hatred in the wake of Pearl Harbor.

James Ellroy, described by the Los Angeles Times Book Review as ‘one of the great American writers of our time', was born in Los Angeles in 1948. His ‘L.A. Quartet’ novels— The Black DahliaThe Big NowhereL.A. Confidential, and White Jazz—have won numerous awards and are international bestsellers. Several of his novels have been made into acclaimed films. His most recent novel, Perfidia, published in September 2014, is the first book in his ‘Second L.A. Quartet’. The design of this series is unprecedented; Ellroy takes characters from the original L.A. Quartet and the ‘Underworld U.S.A. Trilogy’ and places them in Los Angeles during World War II as significantly younger people.

Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from one of the great American writers of our time.
