Ajay Chowdhury, the inaugural winner of the Harvill Secker-Bloody Scotland prize, is a tech entrepreneur and theatre director. His children’s book – Ayesha and the Firefish, was published in 2016 and adapted into a musical which premiered in San Francisco. 
 
 
The Waiter (Sunday Times Crime Book of the Month), was published in 2021, and is the first in his critically-acclaimed crime series about Detective Kamil Rahman, an ex-policeman from Kolkata who has moved to Brick Lane in London. It is being adapted for television by Moonage Pictures.The Cook (Guardian Top Crime Books of the Year) was published in May 2022 to excellent reviews and deals with the issue of homelessness. The third book in the series – The Detective (Sunday Times Top Crime Books of the Year) – is about government surveillance and AI. The Spy (Longlisted Wilbur Smith Adventure Writing), the fourth book, sees Kamil infiltrate a terrorist cell. The Shadow (A Sunday Times Crime Book of the Month) is the latest book in the series.

Since 1977, The News Quiz has entertained the nation with its satirical take on contemporary events. As lockdown hits, Angela Barnes sets up her home studio/duvet fort to host Series 102 without a live audience, posing cryptic questions on such Covid-related topics as social distancing in sport and Dominic Cummings' Barnard Castle trip, as well as Donald Trump's 'Death Star' and the Black Lives Matter protests. 
 
Series 103 sees chairman Andy Zaltzman and the team broadcasting online via Zoom, with added audience participation and aided by a 'cyber satirist'. They chew over issues including the Last Night of the Proms controversy, record-breaking sheep, the Rule of Six and breaking international law - but only in a limited and specific way.

Andy Zaltzman returns for a triple helping of comic quizzing, as he serves up a satirical smorgasbord of choice news morsels for his esteemed panellists to feast on. Making short work of them are some of the biggest names in British and international comedy and journalism, including Sara Barron, Ria Lina, Nish Kumar, Pierre Novellie, Armando Iannucci, Zing Tsjeng, Ava Santina, Mark Steel, Adam Kay, Geoff Norcott, Susie McCabe and Ian Smith. 
 
Kicking off with a ‘Best of 2024’ compilation episode, revisiting and revelling in the previous year’s funniest moments, the team proceed to tuck into 2025’s most pertinent topics, among them the presidential inauguration, the election of the world’s first American Pope, Donald Trump’s tariff turmoil, the Birmingham bin workers’ strike, Budget talks, the Boriswave and the stripping of both Royal titles and Royal crown jewels. 
 
They also take time to savour some of the year’s smaller stories – including the overdue return of the woolly mammoth, the death of the semi-colon, pop stars popping to the stars, Yorkshire gladiators, telepathic Google searches and chimps drunk on fruit. Since its inception in 1977, The News Quiz has been taking an irreverent sideways look at the headlines, playfully poking fun at the issues, incidents and individuals that make the news. These 32 episodes, first broadcast between January 2017 and February 2018, see Miles Jupp in the chair once more, as he shepherds the panellists through the top stories from that eventful period.

Ever since 1977, The News Quiz has been finding the hilarity in the headlines and providing witty commentary on stories big and small. In these 25 episodes from 2009, the inimitable Sandi Toksvig is in the hot seat, presiding over an all-star panel of journalists and comedians. 
 
Bringing their A-game to the show are regulars including Jeremy Hardy, Andy Hamilton, Mark Steel, Francis Wheen, Sue Perkins and Carrie Quinlan, as well as relative newcomers such as Chris Addison, Phill Jupitus, Rory Bremner, Robin Ince and David Mitchell. 
 
Each episode brings a fresh crop of news for the team to get their teeth into, and among the topics under discussion are Barack Obama's first 100 days, MP's expenses, Twitter's shakedown of super-injunctions, North Korea's nuclear ambitions, the Iraq inquiry and the perils of drunken trampolining. Originally conceived as a one-off whimsy, The News Quiz is now in its 46th year and still going strong. In these 26 shows, host Andy Zaltzman gathers up handfuls of headlines and hurls them at the panellists, who promptly fling back punchlines, puns and persiflage. 
 
Kicking off with a ‘Best of 2022’ episode reflecting on the highs and lows of a year in which Britain had two monarchs and three Prime Ministers, the team go on to peruse the biggest, funniest and most noteworthy events of 2023. It’s the one hundredth series of The News Quiz – let the centennial celebrations commence! To mark the occasion, each of these eight episodes is presented by a different guest host from the world of comedy, who keeps the chair warm in their own inimitable style (and with their cushion of choice). 
 
Zoe Lyons, Angela Barnes, Patrick Kielty, Andrew Maxwell, Kiri Pritchard-McLean, Andy Zaltzman, Phil Wang and Nish Kumar lead a panel of guests as they dissect the latest political machinations and round up news stories both big and small. Among the panellists are Andy Hamilton, Hugo Rifkind, Kerry Godliman, Susan Calman, Lucy Porter and Darren Harriott. 
 
Topics include the prorogation (and subsequent recall) of Parliament, the Amazon rainforest fire and the climate strike. Boris Johnson welcomes a new member of the family (his dog Dilyn) and waves goodbye to another (his brother Jo). Plus, it’s last orderrr orderrrrs for John Bercow, Donald Trump faces impeachment, and we hear about some Supremely relevant interventions. There’s also some feisty animal stories, as seagulls attack and a Russian naval vessel is sunk by a rogue walrus… 
 
Providing some welcome light relief are newsreaders Neil Sleat, Alan Smith, Susan Rae and Diana Speed, who read out a selection of humorous press cuttings sent in by listeners.

The News Quiz, 'the finest topical comedy panel game known to radio', has been providing headlines, punchlines, irony and irreverence since it was first broadcast in 1977. In these 33 episodes from September 2015 to October 2016, Miles Jupp takes over at the helm, replacing previous host Sandi Toksvig. 
 
Joining him in the name of news are an esteemed panel of guests including Samira Ahmed, Susan Calman, Chris Addison, Nish Kumar, Steve Lamacq, Jeremy Hardy, Mark Steel, Andy Hamilton, Rebecca Front, Zoe Lyons, Kerry Godliman, Holly Walsh, Francis Wheen and Lucy Porter. 
 
Using their considerable comedic talents, they dissect topics as diverse and diverting as Jeremy Corbyn, the EU referendum, Donald Trump, the Panama Papers, the collapse of BHS, the exit of Sam Allardyce as England manager and The Great British Bake-Off. Sandi Toksvig is at the helm for two final series of the satirical radio panel game 
 
After nine years, 28 series and over 220 episodes in the hot seat, Sandi Toksvig stepped down from The News Quiz at the end of Series 87. These two superlative series are her last hurrah - and our last chance to enjoy her unique blend of wit, warmth and intelligence, as she leads the panel in a whimsical review of the headlines. 
 
Jeremy Hardy and Susan Calman both take a turn in the chair, but for 12 of these 14 episodes, Sandi is at the helm as they take a wry look at the news in all its larger-than-life glory. Topics on the agenda include the threat of a 'Grexit', the re-internment of Richard III, MPs' salaries the dangers of skinny jeans, head transplants, French food waste and middle-class bees... 
 
Slogging it out to come up with the funniest jokes on these disparate subjects are players including Craig Ainsley, Elis James, Samira Ahmed, Fred MacAulay, Romesh Ranganathan, Susan Calman, BJ Novak, Sara Pascoe, Phill Jupitus and Helen Zaltzman.
