Sales

The Penguin Random House UK sales teams all have in-depth knowledge and wide-ranging expertise of our publishing, our markets and our retailers.

We nurture and retain strong relationships with national bookshop chains, supermarkets and digital retailers. We also have a separate Regional Sales Team dedicated to working with a broad range of smaller independent booksellers throughout the UK. Our Regional Managers work with these shops to curate the best list of titles from across our catalogue and to support with point of sale, reading copies, publicity information and more.

If you are a specialist independent bookshop looking to make contact with our Regional Sales Team, contact Lewis Cain, Independents Sales Manager. You can also sign up to the All About Indies newsletter. If you are a non-specialist retailer and you would like to order our titles, contact Gardners.com who will be able to supply you with information and books across our entire list.

In addition to our reach in the UK, we work with retailers across the world. We work closely with our experienced marketing and publicity teams to ensure that our physical, digital and audio books can benefit from the best promotional activity to reach the widest possible audience and drive sales.

For all international retail and wholesale enquiries please contact penguinexport@penguinrandomhouse.co.uk. They will direct you to the international sales representative for your region.

Penguin Random House UK has an extensive and diverse array of titles available in all formats for adults and children and our sales teams can help you with catalogue information, point of sale and promotional materials, as well as advising on tailored marketing of our lists and individual titles for your retail business.

Penguin Random House services

From our Frating site we look after customers and clients across the world with our Finance, Royalties, Customer and Credit Services teams. Many of our Technology team are also based here alongside our TBS (The Book Service) warehousing operations.

These operations are dedicated to Penguin Random House Group companies and are responsible for supplying 80 million books to over 12,000 customers from a range of 33,000 titles.

Controlled publication dates and embargoed titles

Penguin Random House UK works with retailers to ensure that selected books are made available to consumers at the same time across the market.

For a small number of titles, we apply Controlled Publication Dates. These titles are supplied to retailers in advance to enable stock to be available for sale on publication day, but must not be sold or otherwise supplied to consumers before the Controlled Publication Date.

This approach helps provide a fair and consistent launch for all retailers while supporting the best possible publication for our authors and their books.

Controlled Publication Dates

The titles listed below are subject to a Controlled Publication Date.

Retailers accepting advance supply of these titles are expected to:

  • Refrain from selling or otherwise supplying copies to consumers through physical stores before the Controlled Publication Date.
  • Ensure that online orders dispatched before publication are delivered no earlier than the Controlled Publication Date.
  • Where acting as a wholesaler or supplying other retailers, use reasonable endeavours to make downstream customers aware of the Controlled Publication Date and ask them to observe it.
  • Avoid processing or reporting consumer sales before the Controlled Publication Date where reasonably possible.

The current Controlled Publication Dates are shown below.

Embargoed Titles

On rare occasions, Penguin Random House UK publishes books that contain particularly sensitive or confidential content. Examples might include high-profile memoirs, books with significant media interest, or titles supported by exclusive serialisation or other confidential publishing arrangements.

These books are designated as Embargoed Titles.

Embargoed Titles are subject to additional security and confidentiality requirements beyond a standard Controlled Publication Date. Retailers supplied with these titles will be asked to enter into a separate Embargo Agreement, which sets out the specific handling, storage, confidentiality and publication requirements applicable to that title.

If you wish to receive stock of an Embargoed Title before its publication date and have not signed the relevant title-specific Embargo Agreement, please contact your Penguin Random House UK Account Manager

The current Embargoed Titles are shown below.

Currently there are no Embargoed Titles.

If you have any questions regarding Controlled Publication Dates or Embargoed Titles, please contact your Penguin Random House UK Account Manager.
