Eight authors for Penguin Random House on the Granta Best of Young American Novelists List

Penguin Random House

Every decade Granta magazine asks a panel of independent judges to choose the very best and most exciting American writers under 40 for a special Best of Young American Novelists issue. This issue is not just a list – it also showcases the work of each writer, creating an exciting and authoritative commentary on the state of American writing. The list of 21 writers chosen  for the listing of literary fiction’s most prominent authors represents a dynamic and diverse literary scene and provides a “snapshot of the exceptional talent working across the country”, according to this year’s judges.

Penguin Random House have an incredible eight authors featured in the issue, more than any other publisher.  They include Boston-born author Ottessa Moshfegh, whose second novel Eileen (VINTAGE) was shortlisted for the 2016 Man Booker Prize, debut novelists Yaa Gyasi, author of Homegoing (Viking), and Emma Cline, whose The Girls (VINTAGE) is in the running for Debut Book of the Year at next month’s British Book Awards, are among the names to feature on the 2017 Granta Best of Young American Novelists list.

This year, the judges consisted entirely of writers, including Paul Beatty, Patrick deWitt, A.M. Homes and Ben Marcus.
