Penguin to bring pop-up beach to Manchester

test

This weekend (4-5 August), Penguin will be turning a street outside the north side of the Arndale Centre in Manchester into its very own pop-up urban beach – complete with sand, deckchairs, ice cream and plenty of books for visitors to find their perfect summer read.

With the UK’s long hot summer set to continue, and with weekend temperatures comfortably predicted to be on the right side of the twenties, Penguin want to provide the perfect location for shoppers to relax, enjoy the sun and kickstart their holidays – during their weekend shopping.

Partnering with Waterstones, the beach will feature its own exclusive beachside bookshop, stocked full of everything from addictive thrillers to life-changing non-fiction and everything in between, from authors such as Yuval Noah, Marian Keyes, Harari, Paula Hawkins, Dan Brown, Philip Pullman and Roald Dahl.

The beach will be the centrepiece in Penguin’s summer campaign #StoriesMakeSummer, which has been asking readers about their favourite summer holiday books – and, in turn, helping other readers to find their own summer story for 2018.

Zainab Juma, Creative Manager, Penguin Random House said: “Nothing makes a summer perfect quite like a great book. Whether you’re heading for the beach, the park or a city break, reading gives you the time and space to take a step back from life and relax and spend your time in the company of great characters and stories. Not everyone has started their holidays yet though - so we decided to bring the beach to Manchester. Pop by, find your summer read, grab an ice cream, and kick start your holiday in style.”

The beach will be open over the weekend of the 4-5 August, from 11am to 3pm at Nicolas Croft, Northern Quarter, Manchester.
