Stefan McGrath

Managing Director, Penguin Press

I joined Penguin Books in 1992 – which was my first job in publishing – and started commissioning non-fiction in 1995. I have been managing director of Penguin Press since 2002. I have been reading Penguin Classics continuously since first joining Penguin, but have still read only a small part of that list!

A book that's left a deep impression on me: Recently, The Tale of Genji by Murasaki Shikibu.

My literary hero: Tomas Tranströmer, a Swedish poet who won the Nobel Prize for literature in 2011.

A book I'd recommend to everyone: Marcella Hazan’s Classic Italian Cooking.
