World Book Day

World Book Day is our biggest single volunteering effort each year. Every March over 500 colleagues from Penguin Random House UK  volunteer in schools and communities local to our sites and some of the most literacy-vulnerable parts of London.

97% of organisations found the session impactful, 221 activity sessions delivered, 6,345 people reached

Colleagues deliver storytelling sessions to little ones and reading activities in primary schools. They also facilitate interactive careers workshops with teenagers in secondary schools and host book club discussions with adults in homeless shelters, community centres and care homes.

The children loved it and it is so valuable for children to engage with adult role models (not just their teachers) about books. The volunteers were so enthusiastic and the chosen book was perfect.
