Penguin Live

We entertain our audiences

Penguin Live is the boutique, in-house production arm of Penguin Random House. By producing ticketed events and tours, we provide opportunities for our readers to enjoy the ultimate connection; live experiences with the writers they love.

Our events range from intimate gatherings to extensive tours, featuring comedians and novelists, chefs and big thinkers – from Ruby Wax, Simon Sinek and Caitlin Moran to Margaret Atwood, Irvine Welsh and Rick Stein. We also create show-stopping productions with household names, including Tom Hanks, Professor Stephen Hawking and Tim Peake. And we develop brand-led experiences – such as the hugely successful Penguin Pride – which explore current themes and issues through literature, music and visual arts, creating inclusive moments that inspire and connect people. And because every event starts with a book, we know that each one is driving sales and feeding into bestseller lists, too.

Case Studies

Simon Sinek

Simon Sinek

In May 2017, Penguin Live put Simon Sinek, ‘the man who broke the internet’ on stage with one of the UK’s best-loved documentarians, Reggie Yates, for an evening discussing The Millennial Question and why many struggle in the workplace. Author of Start With Why, Sinek has the third most-watched TED talk ever, and the sold-out event was live-streamed across the globe with current views at over 109,000 and more than 25 countries reached. The event achieved Simon Sinek’s goal of talking directly to a younger, more diverse audience.

Penguin Pride at Proud: the highlights

Penguin Pride 2017 was a one-night festival of books, poetry and music celebrating LGBT literature. With performances from MC Angel, Keith Jarrett, Toby Campion, Z-Star Delta and Bloc Party’s Kele Okereke, plus appearances from authors Matthew Todd and Paul Flynn, London Night Czar Amy Lamé and trans activist Fox Fisher.

July 2017 saw Penguin Live take over Proud Galleries, Camden, for a unique festival-style event, featuring live music, performance poetry, photography and more to mark 50 years since the decriminalisation of homosexuality in England. Penguin Pride @ Proud showcased Penguin’s fantastic LGBT authors with live readings from Matthew Todd and Paul Flynn, along with performance poetry from Keith Jarrett and Toby Campion. The evening culminated in sets from Z–Star Delta and Kele Okereke. Penguin Pride is the first in a series of theme-led, multi-media events to be produced by Penguin Live that will provide a platform for voices – from publishing and beyond – to be heard, and seminal book titles to be celebrated.

Stephen Hawking at The Royal Festival

Stephen Hawking

On the 16th January 2017 we produced a multi-media event to mark the 75th birthday of Professor Stephen Hawking. Incorporating filmed interviews, Q&A and reading from A Brief History of Time the event was hosted by respected journalist Michael Buerk and featured keynote speeches from the Astronomer Royal, Lord Rees. The event opened The Southbank Centre’s Belief and Beyond Belief Festival and was introduced on the night by Festival Director, Jude Kelly.
