Join us for a free virtual panel on demystifying the publishing process, from 7-8pm, Tuesday 15 November.

No matter where you are in the process, the thought of getting your first book published can be a daunting one.

In this hour-long panel, authors Amy McCulloch and Ashok Banker, literary agent David Headley, and Penguin editor Joel Richardson will talk through each stage of the publishing process, from idea to bookshelf, and the various routes to publication, as well as answering any questions that you have.

About the panellists

Amy McCulloch (author) is the Chinese-White author of eight novels for children and young adults, including the #1 bestselling YA novel The Magpie Society: One for Sorrow. Her adult fiction debut, Breathless, is an international bestseller, and she’s currently working on her second novel, set in the Antarctic. In September 2019, Amy became the youngest Canadian woman to climb Mt. Manaslu in Nepal -- the world's eighth highest mountain.

Ashok Banker (author) has previously written over eighty bestselling and internationally acclaimed books spanning genres ranging from children’s fiction to mythological epics. Originally from Mumbai, they are now based in Los Angeles. A Kiss After Dying is their debut thriller.

David Headley (literary agent) is the founder and Managing Director of the D H H Literary Agency, representing an eclectic range of best-selling and award-winning authors. Originally from a working-class background in York, David has spent the last 23 years establishing Goldsboro Books, a much admired, leading independent bookseller, and becoming a well-regarded agent. He has won awards for bookselling, and in the last ten years, has been included in the Top 100 most influential people in publishing by The Bookseller a number of times.

Joel Richardson (editor and panel chair) is the Publisher for Crime/Thriller at Penguin Michael Joseph. Originally from Reading, he’s spent more than ten years in publishing, working at Quercus, Bonnier and now Penguin Random House. Authors he has published include T.M. Logan, Chris Whitaker, Samantha Downing, Alex North, Alex Pavesi and Amy McCulloch.
