Lois Neville

Lois Neville has been a freelance SEO copywriter for over six years, having first trained as a generalist SEO in-house before making the leap to go solo. She has worked with companies including Penguin Random House, Depop, Viator, and Nasty Gal, and particularly enjoys projects with a strong focus on brand identity and storytelling. She has an MA in Gender and Media Studies from the University of Sussex and a BA in English Studies from the University of Leicester.

Lois is a voracious reader, revelling in stories that are, by her own admission, ‘a bit weird’. Her favourite narratives are those that explore gender, power, and liberation, along with anything in the folk and lit horror genres. Her best-loved authors are Angela Carter, Sarah Gran, and Shirley Jackson.

The book I recommend to everyone: The Library at Mount Char by Scott Hawkins. It’s very odd but utterly gripping, and I’ve been chasing the high I had after finishing it ever since. Content warning for pretty much all forms of violence imaginable, but it’s also really funny? I’m not sure if I’m selling it but, honestly, I haven’t found anything else like it.

My favourite tropes: I’m mostly all about vibes. Give me mystery, things feeling a little off, lush but dangerous environments, all that eerie goodness.

My least trope: Unnecessary love triangles. Drives me up the wall!

My top tip to read more: If you’re experiencing a reading slump, don’t force it; I find that trying to push through makes it last longer. Leaving it for a bit and waiting until you’re ready makes it easier to pick up a book again.

Where you’re most likely to find me reading: I have a little spot on my sofa next to the window that gets lovely and warm throughout the day. I’ll have a cup of coffee, some snacks, and will most likely be snuggled up in a blanket. Bliss!
