Between The Lines: John Bishop

The stand-up comedian and author of How To Grow Old discusses old age, trying to understand Generation Z, and his perfect dinner party.

John Bishop started his career in comedy after a chance open-mic performance when he was 35.

Shortly before his dreaded 4-0, the former footballer decided to quit his job and make a go of it. Within three years he was standing in front of thousands on sell-out arena tours and had released the fastest-selling debut DVD in history. In 2013 he wrote the Sunday Times bestselling, How Did All This Happen, his origin story about his early years on a council estate where he dreamed of ousting Kenny Dalglish from Liverpool FC’s starting line-up.

Know for his irrepressible wit, we quizzed John for our video series Between the Lines to find out what it feels like to grow old, the only book he's read twice and the art of using his own book as a doorstop.

How to Grow Old by John Bishop is out now.
