Sarah Rigby, Senior Editor at Hutchinson, has acquired Going to the Mountain: Lessons from my Grandfather, Nelson Mandela by Ndaba Mandela. UK and Commonwealth rights (excluding Canada) in print, ebook and audio.

Going to the Mountain is the story of Ndaba Mandela’s unforgettable time living with, and learning from, one of the greatest leaders and humanitarians the world has ever known: his grandfather, Nelson Mandela.

In Going to the Mountain, Ndaba weaves the trials and frustrations of his early life with tales of Madiba’s watchful eye and council to paint a new portrait of the man to whom so many feel a unique connection. This inspiring book will reveal the transformative power of the life lessons that Mandela shared with his grandson – lessons of resilience, peace and hope.

Going to the Mountain will be a testament to the potential for all of us to change ourselves and our world.

Announcing the title, Sarah Rigby commented: "Arresting, honest and inspiring, Going to the Mountain promises to be a moving and powerful book that will have a lasting resonance beyond this 100th birthday year. Nelson Mandela’s inspirational life lessons of compassion, hope and change are needed now more than ever, and there is nobody  better placed to share them with the world than the grandson he raised."

Ndaba Mandela added: "To the world he was Mandela, one of the greatest change-makers in history, but to me he was the Old Man, Madiba, who raised me. My goal in writing Going to the Mountain is to breathe new spirit and understanding into Madiba’s words and to share my unique perspective on my extraordinary grandfather. I hope readers will find solace, direction, and inspiration in this untold story and Madiba’s timeless message of resilience, peace and hope. I could not be more delighted to be partnering with Hutchinson to share the life lessons he imparted to me."

Hutchinson, an imprint of Cornerstone, will publish in hardback and ebook on 28 June 2018, with an export trade paperback on 26 June 2018, just ahead of the worldwide celebrations on 18 July 2018 to mark what would have been Nelson Mandela’s 100th birthday.

Ndaba Mandela is the co-founder and co-chairman of the Africa Rising Foundation, an organization dedicated to promoting a positive image of Africa around the world and to increasing its potential for growth in the areas of education, employment and international corporate alliances. Ndaba also serves as an executive director for UN AIDS, which seeks to end discrimination around HIV/AIDS. He is also the Founder of the Mandela Project, and is part of the team behind the worldwide celebrations to mark the Nelson Mandela Centenary in 2018.
