The delightfully entertaining new novel from the author of Capers in the Sauce

Laura Lockington was born in Kent but, via interludes in Cornwall, Florence and London, has now settled in Brighton. She has been married, more than once, but vows never to do it again - at least not unless too many vodka martinis prevail over her better judgement. She has had a varied career, working in TV, films, theatre and interior design, but in 1999 abandoned the rat race to write her first novel, Capers in the Sauce. She has grown out of clubbing and taken up cooking for friends instead, but is a firm believer in one's unalienable right to behave disreputably if necessary.

Almost any family looks odd from the outside. But the Stantons are odder than most... So when Poppy Hazleton finally succumbs to her boss Davey Stanton's plea that she join him and his family for Christmas, she has no idea what she's letting herself in for. But the invitation to spend Christmas in the country gets Poppy inextricably entangled in the family politics and convoluted machinations of a group of Cornish eccentrics who come complete with their own witch.  And even once Poppy has started adjusting to roof races, thistle shooting and the Stantons' increasingly tangled intrigues over who gets to inherit the crumbling family pile, there's still her adolescent monkey to be dealt with.  Not to mention the rather more tempting problem of Davey's gorgeous younger brother.

All Livia really wants is for her life to be simple: she'd like to make her interior design business work, see lots of her friends, and maybe find a man - if she ever meets one who knows that Smeg is a brand of kitchen appliance and not a sexually transmitted disease. But events - or more specifically Livia's friends - conspire to keep her life complicated.  What with Steve's secret liaison with 'vegetable girl', Mandy's insistence that Livia hosts a dinner party to help her snare the latest object of her rather fleeting affections, and the glamorous Zena's determination to hold a party to relaunch Livia's career, the simple life just isn't an option.  And the antique pistol in the bottom of her wardrobe is the final straw.
