About the book
For more than a century, Lyons was part of everyday British life. Its restaurants and corner houses appeared on high streets, while its tea, coffee and other products found their way into homes across the country. Behind the company were a family whose ambitions, loyalties and setbacks shaped its extraordinary rise — and its eventual decline.

Their story unfolds against 175 years of transformation. Horse-drawn transport gave way to aeroplanes, frozen food and computers; women's roles changed dramatically; and successive generations of immigrants contributed to Britain's culture and economy.
