Summary

Four full-cast dramatisations starring Nicholas Le Prevost as Inspector Maigret ‘The Yellow Dog’ sees Maigret upsetting the citizens of Concarneau as he begins his murder investigation. But there is poison in the Pernod, a howling yellow dog and, it seems, a madman on the loose... In ‘Maigret and the Burglar’s Wife’, "Sad Freddie" is committing a burglary when he discovers the body of a dead woman, holding a telephone in her hand. Can Maigret believe the burglar’s wife in the face of other evidence? ‘Inspector Cadaver’ sees Maigret dealing with an old enemy - an ex-police officer nicknamed ‘Inspector Cadaver’, who seems to be doing everything in his power to obstruct Maigret in his investigations. Finally, in ‘Maigret’s Little Joke’, Maigret and his wife take a secret holiday in Paris. When a murder occurs, Maigret must get his information from the press and radio. How can he leave Janvier to solve the crime alone?

Georges Simenon

Georges Simenon was born in Liège, Belgium, in 1903. He is best known in Britain as the author of the Maigret novels and his prolific output of over 400 novels and short stories have made him a household name in continental Europe. He died in 1989 in Lausanne, Switzerland, where he had lived for the latter part of his life.
